Origins

Samuel Joyce was born and raised in London, England. He was always a bright boy. Intelligent. His mother ran a book and paper shop, making her own parchment, it was expensive stuff in part of a dying artform. His father was a police officer. Samuel had a lot of time for reading, decided at a young age that he wanted to go beyond the simple life of his childhood. Human psychology fascinated him and he spent many days reading while staying with his mother at the store after school. Then his father was killed in the line of duty and it was proven that the reason he died was a fellow officer and not a criminal. This was filed away. Not forgotten, but it made young Samuel question the difference between hero and villain. Years later, on a full scholarship, a seventeen-year-old Samuel Joyce crossed the Atlantic to go to college at John Hopkins University. He got through his undergratuate degree faster than most, getting his BS in psychology. It was during this time he met Cassandra Latimer. In 2007, he received his doctorate, writing his thesis on the science of criminal psychology. He left soon after to return to England, taking a job at Oxford and giving the occassional consult for Scotland Yard and Interpol. In 2009 Samuel and one of his students were caught in a shooting that left the Doctor in a coma. It was assumed that he wouldn't wake. Miraculously a week after the Crucible Comet hit, he woke. No longer quite the same, he had a plan for a new experiment. And soon after the Silver Jackal was born.
