Ring of Destiny

The Ring of Destiny is the popular pseudonym for the cloud of cometary and lunar debris that surrounds the earth, these debris laced with that strange element known as the Crucible Element. The largest bits have stabilized in a ring that is visible in moonlight, cutting across the earth at an oblique, covering part of the United States, Africa, and Asia. However, in spite of this visible marker, the ring is truly a cloud that surrounds the earth, a dust cloud that permeates Earth's upper orbits out beyond the orbit of the moon.

Entering the Ring of Destiny is quite dangerous. The Crucible Element is a power catalyst; both mundane and super science are affected, causing ships' systems to go haywire, and it does the same to magical abilities and genetic mutations. At the fringes of the Ring, a metahuman must make a Will Save (DC10) to use active abilities such as Blast, Enhanced Strength, and so forth. This DC increases the further into the ring you go, until you reach the very center, at which no powers whatsoever, including passive powers such as Immunity or Protection, will work.

This results, needless to say, in a grisly death.

Whether it's possible to bypass this strange ring and exit into space outside the planet is open to question. Many think it possible. If it is, it will require a great deal of time and experimentation.
