- The Baker School of Arts and Sciences, offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in the social sciences and humanities, including the highly-regarded departments of History, Psychology, and Anthropology

Founded in 1763 as Elizabethtown College, the University will be celebrating its semiquincentennial in 2013. Student Life
As with most large colleges and universities, there are many diverse extracurricular activities in which students may choose to take part. Almost all undergraduates are members of the PLU Students' Association, under which over a hundred student clubs and associations are organized, formed by groups of students sharing a common cultural or ethnic identity, a common political viewpoint, a common interest in a particular activity, hobby, or pastime, or some other defining common ground. Many national fraternities and sororities also have chapters on campus.
A number of the various clubs and groups engage in activities, produce publications, or hold periodic events that are highly visible to the general public beyond the boundaries of the campus, including:
- PLU Stardust, a metahuman-focused publication that runs both news and essays. It maintains an overall neutral stance, though individual articles may be heavily slanted.
- WPLU Radio (89.5 FM), the student-run radio station, featuring an eclectic mix of programming dependent on the musical tastes of the various student DJs. Everything from classical to punk to jazz to reggae to death metal to classic rock can be found on 'The Ploo's' airwaves, occasionally within the same DJ's shift. In other words, standard college-radio chaos in all its anarchic glory.
- PLUtonium, the annual science fiction/gaming/anime convention co-sponsored by the Science Fiction Society, the Gamers' Guild, and the Anime Club. Held on an extended Thursday through Sunday weekend every April, it draws participants of all ages from across the region, as well as from among PLU students, faculty, and staff.
The Port Liberty University Theatre and Dance Department provides a number of entertainment and extracurricular options throughout the year, putting on roughly three productions per schoolyear. Recent productions have included Assassins, Death of a Salesman, and Guys and Dolls.
Many nearby businesses cater almost exclusively to the huge student population. One popular spot right outside the main campus area is Franks and Beans, which has operated on the same corner lot for 35 years. Frank Fontaine was a transplanted New Yorker who wanted to bring the taste of New York hotdogs to the area. Later, when coffee shops became popular, he added on and changed the name to reflect the times. Student discounts available and Frank caters many PLU events.
