Noah Browning is a young metahuman who recently escaped from SCION custody and is currently on the run, "missing and presumed dead" by Illinois state police.

Though possessing considerable climate-altering powers, he has yet to operate as an active metahuman in a public or private manner. He has not adopted a superheroic identity at this time.

Origin

Pre-Ring History

The youngest son of respected Illinois Congressman Jack Browning , Noah spent most of his youth failing to live up to his wealthy family's expectations; he didn't show an interest in law or politics, and though the profession he aspired to was respectable enough even in the eyes of his domineering mother, medical school was a far cry from the family business. Lacking the academic sharpness or dedication to fulfill his vague desire to "make a difference", Noah dropped out of college after failing to get admitted to medical school and instead earned an EMT-B certification, the most basic level of EMT training. However, it was harder to find a job than he thought; when CRUCIBLE-1138 hit, it was his first day on the job as a volunteer EMT.

Crucible-1138

CRUCIBLE-1138 hit and destroyed a large portion of his hometown, and, on his first day in scrubs, Noah responded to so massive and world-changing a disaster. For several days he and others worked tirelessly to pull the wounded and trapped out of the wreckage of what had been so much of Chicago; when the oxygen mask he had been issued to protect him from unidentified fumes, Noah discarded it and kept working, a decision that seemed brave and childish at the time but would have far-reaching consequences.

The California Cold Snap

When the first changes set in months later, a confused Noah set out to find out what was wrong with him. Tracking down others who had worked at the impact site, he found nothing save the sporadic crank who claimed to be an ancient wizard or mystical force. His power -- to drop temperatures down as far as absolute zero, a physically impossible and extremely dangerous effect -- became more and more powerful. His search had brought him across the country to California when his abilities went out of control, plunging most of the Western Seaboard into a amazingly cold season in the midsts of Spring, nearing Arctic temperatures. The cold snap lasted for three weeks while Noah concealed himself in an abandoned barn, struggling to gain control of his abilities.

The SCION Incident

The cold snap was ended when SCION located the epicenter of the cold front, mobilizing over two hundred agents, helicopters, and tanks to sedate and capture Noah, who spent the next three weeks in a drug-induced coma before escaping by chance, destroying the facility that held him in the process and going on the run after hitching a ride to Port Liberty.

Picking Up The Pieces

Almost broke and on the run in a strange town, Noah is left with handfuls of questions and precious few answers for what's happening to him and the world around him, and a massive responsibility in the form of his powers, which froze an entire state and threaten to do the same to a far greater expanse of land. No more aware of metahumanity than the average citizen, Noah's hunt for answers and a direction have lead him to Port Liberty and an uncertain future.

Right Now

In the News

The inexplicable two-week cold front that hit California did so in defiance of nearly every meteorological prediction (with one exception; Summer Sinclair was able to predict record lows without error) was national news; temperatures fell to nearly Arctic levels and the effects on local flora and fauna is yet to be fully calculated. It was regarded as an even more extreme effect of "El Nino" or climate change.

The disappearance of Noah Browning, the son of well-known Illinois congressman Jack Browning, who made a name for himself helping to rebuild after the impact of CRUCIBLE-1138, also made state news and was a minor story elsewhere in the country. His return has not yet been reported and he is missing and presumed dead by official inquiry.

Several months later, a metahuman matching his description and wielding remarkable ice powers apparently aided in the break-out of the metahuman criminal Sleight of Mind and the kidnapping of four police officers, the whereabouts of whom are unknown.

He is currently sought for questioning, suspected of kidnapping, murder, and numerous other crimes.

Through The Looking Glass

On his own in Port Liberty, Noah has kept a low-profile to avoid -- well, everyone. Uncertain of who to trust and surrounded by potential SCION operatives, Noah's dual quests to solve the SCION mystery and get his life back have brought him into contact with the post-human population of Port Liberty. Finding himself, a normal guy from Illinois, sandwiched between one-eyed hyper-intelligent schoolgirls and people claiming descent from ancient lines of wizards and an inter-dimensional invasion from Atlantis, Noah continued to look for friends he can trust in an increasingly strange world.

He found them -- but his life didn't get any easier. After making initial contact with members of FAME, a mysterious secret society comprising numerous extremely powerful and influential metahumans, Noah found himself increasingly swept up in a world he didn't fully understand and one in which he seemed to stand little chance of surviving.

What Noah Found There

After several metahuman encounters and severe collateral damage caused by the untested application of his powers (and repeatedly narrow escapes from the numerous shadowy organizations which, for good or ill, seemed intent on recruiting or otherwise obtaining him, Noah disappeared entirely from Port Liberty and by all accounts dropped off the radar in the Northern Hemisphere for over a month.

Towards the end of September, 2012, a man fitting Noah's physical description -- reportedly serving as ship physician -- stepped off a fishing trawler bound from Tierra Del Fuego, one of the Southernmost settled territories in the world after a conspicuous absence of weeks.

Gather Information DC:

  • DC 5: Noah matches the description and photograph of one Noah Browning, son of Illinois state congressman Jack Browning. Noah has been missing for four months and is presumed dead.
  • DC 10: Noah also appears to match the description of metahuman sighted in Port Liberty on several occasions, reportedly using some sort of temperature reduction power, the extent of which is unknown.
  • DC 15: Other people who have pinged as "Fed" to the more astute informants in town have been asking some very pointed questions concerning Noah's current whereabouts.
  • DC 20: Noah has been seen passing in and out of several buildings now identified as former hide-outs of the metahuman criminal Turandot, who also possesses some degree of ice powers.
  • DC 25: Someone happens to recall that Noah was an EMT on-call in Chicago the night of the comet. Archives of TV news confirm his presence in the background of the clean-up effort, working for days on end.
