Zelda Lee, as a teen, isn't well known outside of her high school. There, she's a sophomore on the fringe between the popular and the punkish, pretty but without an overt concern in the social politics. Despite her interest in school activies - such as drama club and choir - she's also known as the sort that attracts trouble. Whether she's making it or just stumbles across it depends on who you ask.

The Mockingbird is a type of New World passerine bird from the Mimidae family. They are best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds, often loudly and in rapid succession. (Credit to wikipedia.)

A Brief History

Zelda's parents broke up when she was young; her mother had gotten a respectable job with company, and he was a carnie to which the idea of a respectable job was no job at all. It wasn't a troublesome breakup as far as divorces go, but it meant Zelda spent three seasons with her mother and summers with her father on the road.

That was why Zelda was near Chicago, rather than her home of Port Liberty, when the Event struck. She saw things that day that would change her perspective forever. In addition, the Crucible Element would begin to alter her DNA in ways she could never foresee.

Life continued as normal for her - or at least as normal as it ever was - going back to her mother and starting high school. It wasn't until she was kidnapped the following summer that things really started to change.

When her kidnapper was confronted by the police and the meta known as the Skylander, her kidnapper panicked and shot her. To her surprise, she was only mildly injured, and most others presumed the bullet had missed her head somehow. She knew the truth, but her 'invulnerability' had gone away as soon as it had arrived.

But she's starting to get strange feelings whenever she's around powers, and it's only a matter of time before she uncovers the truth behind her abilities...

Powers

Replication Aura ( Mimic ): Zelda's powers come from the 'replication aura' that surrounds her and permeates her. When she focuses on another person, this aura shifts to duplicate any superhuman abilities they may have - even they aren't strictly human. Though this aura is normally invisible, it manifests generally when she uses the powers she's mimicking, often overlaying her with a glowing outline approximating that of the person whose powers she's copying.

For example, if she copied the super-strength of a larger man, she might have his larger fist flicker into existence around her real hand when she uses it. Other times it comes across as more totemic or symbolic - if the person she's mimicking has a icon or coat of arms, she might manifest that, or if they have control over a specific element, she might be wreathed in her aura's approximation of that element. Similarly, if she copies a device, an approximation might manifest through her aura. However, she lacks much of the creative or innate qualities that might go along with powers, and often can't perform more intricate functions with them - such as using borrowed intelligence for invention, or improvising magical effects.

This aura is never exact enough for her to pass as another person, though it might make her somewhat harder to identify. The light it gives off won't permeate darkness, in addition.

The powers she copies are, of course, an approximation, and may not be fully accurate. In addition, any powers she gains through her aura aren't as 'anchored' in genetics, mystic blood, or hard-earned training, and as such, she more vulnerable to nullification or draining.

  • Mimic 12 (Genetic; All Traits, 60pp; Extras: Action - Move, Range - Perception; Flaws: Tainted; Drawbacks: Limited - Can only copy Attributes above 24 and all Powers)
  • Vulnerable (Drain Powers/Nullify Descriptors; Uncommon; Moderate; x1.5 DC)

Power Detection ( Super-Senses ):She can also instinctively detect and notice powers and similar effects resulting from the Crucible Element, as her aura picks up waves and particles resulting from those sorts of effects like the eardrum might pick up vibration. She can't necessarily pinpoint them without some work (like trying to find an odd noise or scent) or a cue from one of her more accurate senses, however. This works, of course, best on "active" powers or big effects, and not so well on innate or more subtle abilities.
