History

Diego’s grandparents immigrated from Brazil in 1990 to set up their own restaurant business in Norfolk, VA. His father married Andrea Parsons soon after they arrived in the country and he started his own auto mechanic business. Diego was born two years later; he just turned 21 in March of 2012.

Until 2010, Diego had a perfectly normal life for a middle-class kid in Port Liberty. He’s lived around and about the Peninsula all his life; first in Norfolk, then in Virginia Beach, then finally in a York County suburb of Port Liberty. His parents and grandparents make a nice prosperous living, so he was able to go to William and Mary (though he needed the scholarship to make ends meet). He’s your basic middle-class suburban kid with an education and a couple of hobbies he likes, despite having superpowers. He’s currently just finishing up a degree in government studies and public policy, then he plans to take a year or so off to ‘experience life’ before applying to law school. In the meantime, he’s applied to work at a midtown bar as a bartender and back-up bouncer.

In October 2010, he was on vacation with a group of friends from college; they went up into the mountains for skiing and general blowing-off-steam at a rented chalet as they waited for the comet to crash (they also rented the chalet as high up a mountain on the western side of the Appalachians just in case all the predictions were wrong). Diego went off the morning of the impact to take some pictures on the hiking trail; he woke up face down in the snow 500 feet below where he’d apparently fallen. Disbelief warred with fear and fear won out; he made up an excuse when he got back to the chalet and tried to ignore his vague memories of the last few seconds of consciousness where he suddenly fallen through the ground and slid down the mountainside.

For more than a year he tried to ignore the incidents that happened to him seemingly at random until finally he had to face the truth: something had happened to him up on the mountain and he was an emergent metahuman. He moved out of the dorms and got his own place with a little help from his grandparents, and began to experiment off by himself, trying to find out just what he could do. His powers scared him at first but over time he adjusted and then began to really enjoy all the little things he could do. He briefly considered offering his abilities to the military but by then the faint rumors had started, completely unsubstantiated -- but still scary -- rumors that metas who went public, went missing soon after that.

His academics suffered a little bit due to his concentration being split, so he left off a lot of his practicing until just after he graduated a couple weeks ago with a BS in Public Policy. Now he has the free time to really learn what his abilities can do.. and what he can use them for. He’s had the ‘superhero’ idea for some time now, but.. how to go about it?

Diego isn't sure he'll ever go the full 'masked crimefighter' route with his abilities, which are for now almost purely defensive. He controls the interplay between molecules at an unconscious level, causing them to attract or repel each other on a very tiny scale. He walks through walls by literally slipping his molecules through solid matter. He can disrup machines and objects either by causing motors to seize up and moving parts to do the same or by making it so none of the parts have traction with regard to any other part. An extreme action of will can even loosen the molecular cohesion of an object to the point that it simply breaks down into it's component atoms and drifts off.
