CRUCIBLE-1138

November 8, 2010 marked the beginning of the modern era of the Ring of Destiny. Paolo Renelli, an amateur astronomer in Naples was the first to sight the comet. Several frantic calls later it was confirmed that a massive body, a previously unknown comet was on a direct collision course with the Earth. Every resource available was bent to identifying the threat, and it was mid-day the 9th that it was confirmed that the comet would miss terrestrial impact due to it colliding with the moon.

Panic was widespread and unfortunately due to the time frame there was precious little that could be done, no where to run, and no where to hide. Rioting and crime ran rampant, and then on the 11th came the zero hour -- the Crucible-1138 comet struck lady Luna, and set off a chain reaction that altered the world forever.

The central cometary mass exploded and scattered debris both lunar and cometary to form what is known as the Ring of Destiny. The exotic Crucible Element dusted the entire world in previously unknown amounts and catalyzed change.

The weather went mad, meteor strikes caused significant damage in their own right, and touched off numerous fires and related issues. Especially hard hit was Chicago, Illinois. It has taken two years to recover from the impact, and there are still areas that are hard hit and rebuilding. The year after the Ring of Destiny was the coldest winter in over a hundred years, the year after slightly warmer.

The long range impact is still to be seen, but there are many theories -- nearly as many as there are theorists.
